Certainly we all recognize famous logos such as the Nike swoosh and McDonald’s golden arches. These logos are universal icons that represent the brands behind them. Let’s explore logo branding and its importance in brand recognition.
What is Branding?
As an entrepreneur, your brand is what sets you apart from other companies. Effectively it says:
- This is who we are
- This is what we do or what we produce
- This is what we or our products can do for you
- This is what sets us apart from other companies
Basically your brand is your reputation. Maybe your brand is based on longevity and experience, or maybe you are the most innovative in your industry. Wherever you land, branding your company is the most important thing you can do get your name out there and be successful.
What is Logo Branding and Why is it Important?
A logo is a picture, symbol, or word, or a combination of these that represents your company. When people see your logo, feelings and information come to mind about who you are and what you do. A logo connects the minds and hearts of the public to your brand. Your goal is to be able to so ingrain your logo into people’s minds that when they see it they immediately think of all that it represents about your company.
Examples of Famous Logo Branding
The Nike swoosh is an excellent example of logo branding. The name Nike comes from the Greek goddess of victory who represented flight, victory and speed. Today Nike embodies these ideas as well as a lifestyle of fitness and looking great. It carries with it images of the famous basketball icon Michael Jordan as well as basketball heroism and a history of winning. The logo of the Nike swoosh is incredibly simple–two curved lines connected at each end to represent movement and speed. The Nike symbol is a perfect example of how simplicity can be incredibly effecting in logo branding and subsequent brand recognition.
McDonald’s golden arches are another example of simplicity in action. That yellow “M” brings to mind tasty foods like the Big Mac, Quarter Pounder, cheeseburgers, fries and shakes. Immediately the image of Ronald McDonald pops into people’s heads as well as the organization Ronald McDonald House Charities which helps keep families close to their sick children when they are hospitalized or in long-term care.
